In our interview series, entitled “Peace Talks”, we speak to peacemakers with different backgrounds and life stories, and ask them to share their thoughts and reflections. 

This edition of "Peace Talks" features Schifra Na’lya Bte Roni from Peicai Secondary School:

Q: How was your overall experience at the Peacemakers Conference 2018?

My overall experience at the Peacemakers Conference 2018 was fulfilling as I learnt the basics of mediation. At first, I wasn’t looking forward to the Conference, but after the first day, I found it so interesting to the point that I wanted to continue attending it and not miss any part of the Conference! The facils are friendly and I wasn’t afraid to approach any of them. I also got to meet people from other schools and forged bonds with them.

Q: What was the most unforgettable part of the Conference for you?

The most unforgettable part of the Conference to me was visiting the Supreme Court as we don’t really get a chance to go there as students!

Q: What is an example of you applying what you learned in the Conference in real life?

I managed to solve conflicts like friendship problems amongst my peers with whatever that was taught in the Conference. Before taking part in this Conference, I didn’t even know how to approach a conflict properly, but after the Conference, I have really improved my skills.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to the incoming participants of the Peacemakers Conference 2019, what would you tell them?

To the incoming participants, trust me, this Conference is very useful and yes, although I agree that the first part of the day may be boring, but no matter what, sit up straight, open your ears and eyes. Don’t forget to jot down whatever the facils say. This Conference has helped me a lot in school by teaching me how solving problems. So do give your fullest attention!
